Echoes of Dub is fully digital end to end. No travel. No stage. Just your voice and the camera. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you decide to enter to the moment your name is read.
$2,500 JMD covers your first three entries — whether you're a school registering students or an individual entering yourself. Additional entries beyond three are $1,000 JMD each, with no upper limit.
Schools and tertiary institutions register once and submit on behalf of multiple students. Individuals, families, and community groups register through the Open Arena. One flat fee. No hidden costs.
A phone camera works. Find a quiet space, frame your subject clearly, and capture the performance. We accept video files (MP4) submitted via Google Drive link or direct upload through the entry form.
Performances in Jamaican Patois, Standard Jamaican English, or any combination are accepted and equally welcomed. Original work and traditional dub poetry texts both qualify — if traditional, declare it on your entry.
Complete the entry form with your piece details, performer information, and Area selection. You'll have the option to include a written transcript — this makes your piece eligible for the Dub Poem of the Year award.
Once submitted, you'll receive a confirmation with your Submission ID and bank transfer details. After payment, your entry is officially logged into the competition.
Every entry is reviewed by a panel of experienced dub poetry practitioners. Judging is blind — judges score performances without knowing the entrant's name, school, or background. Each piece is scored out of 100 across five criteria. Scores are averaged across the panel.
The full judging rubric is published in The Dubber Codex so every entrant knows exactly how their work is being assessed.
Winners across all six Areas, plus overall grand prizes, are announced in August 2026. Every participating entrant receives an official certificate. Top performers receive medals, trophies, and a share of over $100,000 JMD in cash and prizes.
Outstanding entries are featured permanently in the Echoes of Dub cultural archive — a living record of Jamaican dub poetry in practice.
